Set above the harbour in the historic coastal town of Falmouth, this traditional Cornish terrace property occupies a striking and exposed position, where character, setting, and structure are closely intertwined.

Nova was commissioned to deliver the structural design for a new single-storey rear infill extension—carefully conceived to enhance the existing living space while respecting the proportions and fabric of the original building.

A key feature of the project was the introduction of a large internal lantern rooflight, designed to bring natural light deep into the plan. Supporting this element required a considered structural approach, ensuring adequate strength and stability without compromising the clean architectural intent.

In keeping with the traditional nature of the property, the structural design adopted timber as the primary material. This allowed the new works to remain sympathetic to the existing construction, both visually and structurally, while maintaining continuity with the building’s heritage.
