Banbury Road
This project involved the structural design and delivery of a single-storey wraparound extension to a traditional semi-detached property on Banbury Road, Stratford-upon-Avon.
The extension was designed to create a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area to the rear of the property, together with new utility and WC facilities. Significant internal alterations were undertaken to improve the layout and strengthen the connection between the existing house and the new extension.
A key structural challenge was the removal of substantial sections of the existing rear façade wall to achieve the large, uninterrupted open-plan space required by the client. NOVA developed a bespoke structural solution that balanced structural performance, buildability and architectural requirements.
Particular attention was given to minimising the depth of the supporting structure, allowing the primary steelwork to be accommodated within the floor zone. This eliminated the need for downstand beams, maintaining clean ceiling lines and supporting the contemporary design intent of the space.
The completed scheme has significantly enhanced the property's functionality, creating a bright and flexible family living environment with improved circulation and a stronger visual and physical connection to the garden.
