The Water Tower
A remarkable piece of architectural heritage, this historic converted water tower famously featured on Grand Designs Season 1 stands as a striking example of how engineering expertise can breathe new life into iconic structures.
Nova were appointed to provide specialist structural advice, ensuring the long-term stability and preservation of this unique building while supporting its continued residential use.
Our involvement included a detailed structural appraisal of the original water tank structure. Through a comprehensive survey, we identified areas vulnerable to deterioration and water ingress, and developed targeted, practical recommendations for localised remedial works, helping to safeguard the integrity of the structure without compromising its historic character.
In addition, we designed a new structural lintel to facilitate the formation of an opening into the courtyard. This intervention required a careful balance between modern functionality and structural sensitivity, ensuring that new alterations integrated seamlessly with the existing fabric of the building.
The project highlights Nova’s ability to combine technical precision with a deep respect for heritage structures, delivering thoughtful, efficient engineering solutions that enable buildings of the past to thrive in the present.
